Gimp100podcast Nº032: Hackergotchis!!!

i think you covered the easy way to cut with paths in previous tutorials and in better to introduce new techniques to keep the poscast fresh, the easy way won’t work in over 80% of the cases people will have for hackergotchis

I pic the easier one so people can learn the easy way (as I always do) I obviously use mask-layers and didn’t cut manually the hair, I use another of my podcast for that task.
Even so, if you want me to do a podcast with the hardest faces I can go for it, but all the steps that I follow are collapsed into the rest of the podcast.

for example, here is my treatment on one of your hackergotchis (sharpened, color corrected, softened the edge, remade the shadow):

Most of the time when making hackergotchis you receive crappy self-made photos, but when i have to take the photo too and lack a seamless background, i just put the people in front of a white wall, is easier than your green cloth, which had creases, making your work harder than necessary.

Selecting the background by color was in this case much easier than using the path tool, as you did over the body?

And for the other images in the set did you really used paths to cut? for the hair and beards?

I am lazy and don’t do hackergotchis “the right way”, by cutting using masks, go with the eraser tool and count on the precision of my hand (NOT a good advice for beginners), but I always do the editing at a much larger resolution, to have better precision and then size down the images at the target resolution.

Most of the time you work with large images and have to resize them, either before editing, as you did here or before, as I do, but always a resize will make the image blurry, you have to sharpen it to compensate… I think *all* your hackergotchis here are too soft and in need of a sharpening.

Also, you can perform complete photo editing on them, for the best look, for example do color adjustment.

    Hola.

    Saludos.
