Juan Carlos, -NO- quiero este espacio de comentarios se dañe por una conversación al margen.
En -NINGÚN- momento he dicho que la incapacidad de socializar justifica nada, toda forma de acoso es deplorable e injustificable. Solamente hago resaltar el hecho que los geeks tienen una alta carga de machismo aunque se supone que son abiertos y preocupados con frecuencia por los abusos de autoridad, ese machismo es estúpido y negativo, sin atenuantes.
Te agradezco Juan Carlos que hagas el ejercicio mental de no extrapolar y no añadir significados. Podrías decir que los geeks son o no como digo, que es el tema, pero de ningún modo decir que lo estoy justificando, piensa que esa interpretación la añade tu persona por tu forma exclusiva y personal de pensar, por lo tanto, no soy yo quien tiene el problema.

@Jef @m000g I believe you both are right… I will take this into consideration and try to talk with people who can turn this idea into a fact/goal/whatever. I believe that if we keep setting rules instead “educate” people will continue trying to defy them(rules) so I believe that this is maybe the real solution to the problem. Lets see what can be done.

While all of the advice you give to women is useful, it generally doesn’t solve the problem, your advice helps mitigate the problem that exists. It’s an unfortunate reality that women need to be more on guard for personal safety than I do.

The real problem is setting an appropriate social norm for men and breaking bad unrecognized habits early before behavior escalates beyond annoying harassment into fear and harm.

Not to say that men are dogs. But sometimes…. a lot of the time…i feel like I could adapt positive reinforcement puppy training techniques and write a book on how to train men to break some of our less desirable habits by feeding us appropriate high protein snacks when we do the right thing in a social situation. Hey look Jef just talked to a women without making a reference to bodily fluids or genitalia, Jef just earned a piece of bacon…who’s a good boy…who’s a good boy.

Though I’m not going to write that book, because I don’t want my wife figuring out that if she carried around a pocket full of bacon, she could get me to do more housework. Nope I am definitely not going to write that book.

Te respondo: Puede ser cierto, pero no estoy de acuerdo, una cosa es ser torpe para relacionarse con una mujer y otra es querer forzar una situación, o llevándolo al extremo, abusar de tal o cual forma de una mujer. Ser “geek” no te justifica la falta de caballerosidad, educación y buenas costumbres, es casi la misma excusa que utilizan en países como el mío para justificar la delincuencia: “es pobre, por eso delinque”. Nada más alejado de la realidad.

I will write very quickly … and perphas i will make some grammar mistakes. I just wanted to say that what Jef Spaleta wrote about having a manual would be great. Actually i was part of an interchange programm and we have a Manual regarding different cultures … for example: it’s not ok to touch a fijian’s head because for them it’s extremelly rude.
It will be nice for this kinds of meeting ….with diferent cultural backgrounds, personalities and such… to provide a Manual with some basic rules (just like when you go into an irc channel) …. It might sound a little bit elaborated, but it’s actually a good way to achieve “mutual understanding” (also between men and women).

@Jef wow… one of the things I dare to write this is exactly because I know we don’t know how to act with this. That’s why I also add some advices to girls at the end… but now you make me realize that buys also need this kind of advices since, and believe me I know; some have real good intentions but the internet culture make them look like dumbs. Good thing is that, I can feel now, there is a will to learn and to have a nice coexistence inside FOSS groups (and if this can escale, much better).

I believe your comment is a nice way to -make public- that sometimes mistakes are made, and that guys are open to the fact that a girl can tells them “hey, I didn’t like what you say/did, pls don’t do it anymore” and accept it with a big smile and an honest apology. I have done this tons of times and is a good way to make a really nice “bond of friendship”. Same way some guys need to learn how to behave (read well.. some) also girls need to know how to react, how to teach and how to make people respect them for her profesionalism.

I believe that an door has been open Jef, so is maybe time to give an example in our particular group :) Thank you so much for this awesome comment.

Que buen articulo tatica.. particularmente me encuentro en un nuevo trabajo donde hay 12 chicos y yo sólita como mujer, gracias a Dios no he pasado por malestares de acoso o algo asociado, pero he escuchado de chicas que si les ha pasado en otros sitios, y la cosa no está en Denunciar, no quedarse callada, particularmente de estar en una situación así lo denunciaría en los medios adecuados además de armar un escándalo por las redes sociales, para que por lo menos conozcan de la situación..
