Hoy es día de san valentin, compartir con las personas que quieres es invaluable en estas fechas. Me parece curioso que en latinoamerica se celebre como día de “el amor y la amistad” mientras que en el resto del mundo sea solo el día del amor…. creo que deberíamos exportar nuestra costumbre.

Today is Valentine’s Day, share with the people I love is invaluable at this time. I find it interesting that in Latin America is held as a day of “love and friendship” while on the rest of the world is only the day of love …. I think we should export our custom.

Ah, I feel I have to demystify Valentine too…
You probably know Valentine Day is the Christian “embrace and extend” for yet-another pre-Christian tradition, Lupercalia, but what about Lupercalia?
Like all the animals, humans have a time of the year when they are excessively horny and this appears to be (dunno what are the natural cause) at the end of the winter-start of the spring, when the weather start to become better. In the Mediterranean region (Italy/Roman Empire) this happens to be in the middle of February, just around Lupercalia and Valentine Day. So the people are horny, give each other chocolate and then “get busy” :”>
I live a bit North from Mediterranean, the climate here is colder, that time of the year comes a couple of weeks later and is called Dragobete (really, read this, is insightful) and is pretty much the same thing as Valentine Day plus more local traditions… well, even if that time of the year was earlier, we don’t have the St. Valentin holiday in the calendar, that’s only in the Catholic calendar, not also in the Orthodox one :D
…but I’ll take the chocolate anyway.
@nicubunu yeap, Valentines day is only an excuse to have sex… we all know it :P
no, is mote than that… is the time when, after a few months with our balls frozen, we are again able and willing to have sex. and Valentine is a celebration of it.
@nicubunu and yet again, we in latinamerica (near the equator) is just an excuse to have a long weekend and have sex :D
yeah, i got this already… i have to move (at least for a while) closer to the equator
