125/365: The Book of Inkscape (El libro de Inkscape)

Soy una gran amante de la lectura… lo confieso. Si tuviese la oportunidad de leer 1 o 2 libros semanales, lo haría con muchísimo gusto, pero en Venezuela cada libro nos cuesta entre 100Bs. y 300Bs. lo que hace que se convierta en un hobbie muy costoso.
Hace unas semanas recibí un correo de Eva Tseng, Asistente de mercadeo de la Editorial Nostarch preguntandome si estaría interesada en recibir una copia de el libro “The book of inkscape” con el fin de enviarle mis sugerencias… Ok. Me realicé las siguientes preguntas:
¿Me estan mamando gallo?
¿Es un spammer?
¿Que tengo yo que aportar a un libro que hizo uno de los desarrolladores de la aplicacion, osea Dmitry Kirsanov?
En fin.. sucedió. Hoy recibí una copia del libro a las puertas de mi oficina con una nota diciendome “Espero que disfrutes el libro!!”. No lo consideraré un “regalo”, sino como un nuevo reto… mejorar mi desempeño en esta herramienta será el objetivo. :D

I am a great lover of reading… I confess it. If I had the opportunity to read 1 or 2 books per week, I’ll would be delighted, but in Venezuela each book will cost between 50us$ and 150us$ what makes it a very expensive hobby.
A few weeks ago I received an email from Eva Tseng, marketing assistant for Nostarch Press asking me if I would be interested in receiving a copy of the book “The Book of inkscape” to send my suggestions… Ok. I ask myself the following questions:
Is she kidding me?
Is she a spammer?
What have I to contribute to a book made by one of the developers of this application, I mean… is Dmitry Kirsanov ?
Finally… it happened. Today I received a copy of the book at my office door with a note saying “I hope you enjoy the book!”. I won’t take it a “gift”, but I do as a new challenge… improve my performance in this tool will be the goal. : D

Este si que me parece mi verdadero enemigo, el inkscape… Admiro toda la gente que es capaz de usarlo y tener resultados realmente impresionantes… pero yo con gráficos vectoriales no soy capaz de echarle creatividad.
Mira que me encantaría poder saber usarlo bien y poder hacer mis propios iconos.
Y joe para los libros en venezuela… a precio de oro entre 50$ y 150$ menuda locura. Yo lo máximo que pagué por un libro fue 40 € y creo que es lo más caro que encontré (“Piensa en Java” y “UML y Patrones”). No os saldría más baratos adquirirlos por importación?.
50us$-150us$ is for books bought locally or from the likes of Amazon and including international shipping?
@nicubunu locally, but the last book I bought (blender animation) cost me around 150us$ (that’s my bi-weekly payment, so is expensive)
150$ it would be a lot anywhere… it would not be cheaper to buy from amazon.com?
i don’t think i would find to purchase locally a blender book… but buying from amazon.co.uk will add about 10€, so if i want the book, is doable (i bought from amazon a few photography books)
@nicubunu that’s what I’m doing now. I buy books from Argentina and book+shipping is near 40us$ (2 books). The problem is that we have a Exchange Control (Currency block) to us$, so we can only spend 400us$ per year / per person.
Uh, that is nasty… do you have the same block for Euros? The price from Argentina is not that bad.
@nicubunu I got 2 books from argentina (shipping included) for the same price of one here in venezuela. I bought “Second Foundation – Asimov” and “the magician – Michael Scoot”, also I have some books I buy used from ebay but they are as new :D
Ah, that’s the benefit of speaking the same language… for technical books (computers, photography) English is fine but for literature it may be heavy, I would not do that often. Good things such classics as the Foundation are translated (I read the Foundation series more than 10 years ago). Duh, there were *some* Asimov books available even under the communist regime (things like “The Caves of Steel”).
Hola tatica, no me especializo en diseño, pero me gusta mucho inkscape, por favor, cuando sepas que se publique el libro avisanos, es mas, porque no haces una lista de personas interesadas en el libro, así sea en ingles y lo comentas con sus creadores a ver si pueden traerlos a Venezuela a través de ti, etc… Realmente hay que ser millonario para comprar libros constantemente en nuestro país, y de software libre llegan poco y con mucho tiempo de publicados. Pendientes con los Libros de Python que llegaron a Tecniciencia, me dijeron que en una o dos semanas los ponen a la venta =) @kumda
Este libro ya está publicado. Si ves bien puse el link a la compra en Amazon. No se si ha llegado a Venezuela (lo cual dudo) pero ya se encuentra en el mercado mundial a un costo de 22us$ aproximadamente
Hola, WoW 22 US$ es accequible, pero lo que me sorprende es que los libros esten muy caro, una pregunta, que es lo que manda el precio del libro: pais de origen, topico, tamaño??? u otro. Por ejemplo si quiero conseguir un libro de php de 700 hojas, cuanto estaria por alla?
